Types of Condominium Coverage

Dwelling Coverage
Our building property coverage applies to the part of the condominium that is your own private residence and items that your homeowners association has determined are the unit owners' responsibility to insure, including working outdoor antennas or reception dishes.

Loss Assessment
If you are hit with an assessment, our coverage will pay your portion of the assessment to help repair damage to jointly owned areas after a covered loss.

Personal Property
Personal property coverage applies to what's inside—the contents of your individual unit. We also realize that some of your personal property is unique and valuable, such as:

  • Money-related items like coin collections,  bullion, banknotes and medals
  • Securities, stamps, tickets and deeds
  • Jewelry, watches and furs
  • Gold (with special limits)
  • Silverware and gold ware

AmShield provides special coverage limits for items likes these. If additional coverage is needed, this may be offered through an endorsement.

Additional Living Expenses
If your condo is damaged due to a covered loss and you have to live elsewhere temporarily, we will reimburse you for the increased cost of living away from home until the property is restored to a livable state.

Personal Liability
If someone is injured on your property, our liability coverage will help you pay for the damage you may be legally liable for, whether it's bodily injury or property damage. For example, if your child breaks a neighbor's window while playing baseball or a guest in your home is bitten by your dog, your personal liability coverage can help protect you.

Family Liability
Family liability coverage provides coverage for you and extends to any family members who live with you.

Medical Payments
Similar to personal liability coverage, medical payments coverage will help you pay for reasonable medical payments if someone is accidentally hurt or injured in your condo and the injuries are caused by you or a family member living in your household.

Necessary Repairs After Loss
It may be necessary to protect covered property from additional damage following a loss. This coverage pays for the reasonable and necessary cost of those repairs.

Fire Department Charges
Sometimes fire departments charge if they are called to your property to put out a fire. This more commonly occurs in rural areas. Our coverage for fire department charges will reimburse you up to $500 to help offset those charges.

Credit Card Fraud and Check Forgery
As you might guess, this coverage pays up to $500 for any liability resulting if your credit cards are stolen or your checks are forged.

Other Coverage
The following coverage options are included with your condominium insurance policy:

  • Up to $250 outdoor antenna coverage
  • Automatic personal property coverage at a new residence for 30 days
  • Theft of some kinds of property taken from your car
  • Motorized equipment such as power lawn mowers, while being used to service the premises
  • Collector cards and comic books

Additional Coverage Options
The following options can be added to or increased in your condominium insurance policy:

  • Liability protection for some private school, studio occupancies, or incidental and professional offices on premises
