Paintless Dent Repair
Reading Time:
Dents and dings happen to us all. When the damage is minimal, you may wonder if it’s something you can fix yourself. A bit of research may have you looking into paintless dent removal (PDR) kits. They’re reasonably inexpensive and appear to be easy to use, but before adding one of these kits to your shopping cart, there are a few things you need to know.
What is PDR?
Paintless dent repair, also known as paintless dent removal, is the process of removing small dents, dings and minor collision damage dents from the body of a vehicle. The process involves reshaping the damaged area using special tools to press and massage dents. The metal is pressed from the inside of the damaged panel while the area is illuminated by LED lighting to help clearly show the dented area.
Are there disadvantages or risks associated with you doing PDR?
If someone who lacks experience attempts the repairs, there’s always the risk of doing more harm than good or of creating new damage, such as scratches or cracked paint. Also, some repairs can only be done by removing specific parts including lamps, moldings, trim, entire panels, etc. It can be difficult to remove and reattach some of these parts without causing damage, and some parts must be replaced when they are removed because they are “one time use” parts.
When it comes to auto body damage, it may be best to file a claim and let a professional technician handle the repairs for you. You’ll be glad you did.
